Rome, June 29 (LaPresse) – “I try to simplify the procedural step by stating hereby that, as soon as the arrangements for my voluntary hearing are known and once the date on which I will be allowed to appear is agreed, I will submit, immediately before the hearing, my resignation as a member of the Commission. However, I address the President of my House of Parliament, Lorenzo Fontana, who is responsible for ensuring that each Member of Parliament is able to exercise their rights and fulfill their duties: I do not intend at all to renounce, once the hearing is completed, my role as a member of the Commission, and therefore I ask him to guarantee from now on that no obstacles will be placed in the way of my prompt reinstatement in the Commission.” This is what M5S leader Giuseppe Conte wrote in a letter sent to the presidents of the Senate and the Chamber, Ignazio La Russa and Lorenzo Fontana, announcing his willingness to be heard by the Covid parliamentary inquiry commission on the condition that he can remain a member of it. “I address you, as the highest guarantors of compliance with parliamentary rules and the correctness of procedures, to point out that it has now been almost two years since, in October 2024, I wrote to the president of the parliamentary commission in question, Marco Lisei, to inform him of my availability to be heard by the Commission in the forms and ways deemed appropriate. I add that I reaffirmed this availability by intervening spontaneously during the fifth sitting of the Commission, held on October 15, 2024,” Conte wrote.
