Rome, 30 June (LaPresse) – “I thank you most sincerely for the letter you sent me. I am deeply moved by your paternal concern.” Thus, in a letter, the Superior General of the Society of St Pius X, Fr Davide Pagliarani, responds to the appeal from Pope Leo XIV. “For some time now,” reads the text published on the Society’s website, “I have wished for the opportunity to meet you, to express and demonstrate to you personally our sincere desire to serve the Church. Unfortunately, the opportunity has not arisen. I ask you only to consider the sincerity of this intention, which is by no means feigned. Paradoxically, it seems to us to be our precise duty, in the current context, to do everything possible to mend the robe of Christ, torn by forces and pressures incompatible with an authentically Catholic spirit. I ask you only to consider the sincerity of this intention, before making a decision regarding the Society of Saint Pius X. It is not too late.” “Far be it from us to think of separating ourselves from the Roman Church,” writes Father Pagliarani, “on the contrary, we wish to serve her through exceptional means, like a Mother in distress, who needs special help that is not understood by everyone. But I am certain that the Holy Father could understand this. The Holy See has shown that it is capable of understanding very complex situations and of knowing how to take its time. I take the liberty of asking you, as a son, to take the time necessary for this discernment.”
