Florence, July 6 (LaPresse) – “If we win the next election, the first objective must be to bring healthcare spending up to the European average.” This was stated by the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, today in Florence at a meeting on community healthcare. “This objective,” Schlein continued, “is one that Giorgia Meloni has moved us away from, and they have done so without even having the courage to admit it, because they keep claiming they have made the biggest investment in healthcare in Italy’s history. But Italians who have to wait a year and a half for a gastroscopy or a mammogram are not fooled by these announcements. The truth is that healthcare spending as a share of GDP has fallen and that they arrived late and poorly on community health centres with a top-down reform that they then wanted to withdraw.”
