Madrid (Spain), 7 July (LaPresse) – Spain remains in the grip of the heatwave. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has today issued a heatwave warning across all autonomous communities, with the highest alert level – red – in force in Catalonia, Aragon and the Valencian Community. Along the southern coast of the province of Valencia, in the Carcaixent area, temperatures could reach 44°C, the agency warned. Thermometers are also expected to exceed 40°C in the valleys of the Ebro, Guadalquivir, Guadiana and Tagus rivers and in some areas of Murcia. Today marks the third day of the second heatwave to hit Spain since the start of the summer season. In June – the second hottest June on record since records began in 1961 – 1,028 people died from heat-related causes, according to data from the Daily Mortality Monitoring System (MoMo) of the Carlos III Health Institute.
