Rome, July 17 (LaPresse) — The test flight of SpaceX’s Starship has been postponed until at least next week following a last-minute interruption of the launch procedure on the launch pad. The rocket, which was scheduled to launch overnight, was preparing to take off from Texas when some of its engines failed to ignite. Since not all 33 engines ignited, the automatic launch system halted the operation amid thick clouds of smoke and steam. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk stated that two engines will be replaced and that a new attempt to send the Starship on a suborbital flight (skimming the edge of space) will most likely take place early next week. This will be the 13th flight for the 124-meter-tall Starship, the world’s largest rocket. NASA is counting on the Starship to land its astronauts on the Moon. Elon Musk’s company was carrying the latest and most advanced Starlink satellites on board. The world’s largest rocket is essential for returning astronauts to the Moon. SpaceX’s massive Starship rocket came within about a second of liftoff for the test flight, but the failure of some engines to ignite caused the launch procedure to be aborted amid thick clouds of smoke and steam.
