Genoa, 14 Aug. (LaPresse) – “Eight years ago, at 11.36 am, Genoa was struck at the heart. Forty-three lives cut short, a grief shared by their families and an entire city. Our memory must not be a candle that time consumes, but an ember that continues to burn. It is up to all of us, every 14 August, to rekindle it and keep the flame of remembrance alive.” So said Marco Bucci, President of the Liguria Region, in a post on his social media channels to commemorate the 43 victims of the Morandi Bridge collapse on 14 August 2018. The post was also published simultaneously on the Liguria Region’s social media channels, to mark the eighth anniversary of the tragedy. The memory of the victims has also been honoured on the LED screen at the Liguria Regional Government headquarters in Piazza De Ferrari, Genoa. Since yesterday evening, Thursday 13 August, and throughout this evening, Friday 14 August, a video dedicated to the 43 people who lost their lives in the collapse has been shown on the screen: their names scroll, one by one, across the regional government building in the heart of the city, as a sign of remembrance and solidarity with the families, on the eighth anniversary of a tragedy that has left a deep mark on Genoa and the entire Ligurian community.
