Turin, 19 Aug. (LaPresse) – Iran is considering the possibility of attacking US military targets in Europe should Donald Trump escalate the war, whilst Tehran is weighing up options to raise the stakes in the conflict. This is reported by the Financial Times, citing sources close to the Tehran regime, according to whom Iranian forces have assessed the possibility of striking US targets in south-eastern European countries such as Bulgaria, which last month approved the use of its Bezmer airbase for the in-flight refuelling of US aircraft. One of the sources added that Cyprus, where a British airbase was struck by a drone in March, is also among the potential targets for retaliation in the event of a new US offensive. According to internal sources, Tehran is said to have separately considered the possibility of attacking undersea fibre-optic cables in the Strait of Hormuz in the event of an escalation. “If the United States were to go too far, Iran would defend itself at any cost, extending its action beyond the region and striking Europe as well,” the source said.
