Rome, 19 August (LaPresse) – “Any action that RAI might take at this time against Sigfrido Ranucci, and therefore against the programme *Report*, would inevitably be tainted by falsehoods which – despite the judicial authorities’ clear and unequivocal position regarding the victim and his lack of awareness – have been relentlessly fuelled by specious controversies, even within the organisation itself. Reasons unrelated to the case itself, such as social circles, sources and controversial investigations, would amount to formal and substantive pretexts and manoeuvres. Reasons relating to an ‘incompatibility with the working environment’ – given the protracted nature of the affair and its negative repercussions for the organisation – would be a polite pretext and would in fact amount to the punishment of the victim, for whom there is very little recourse under our legal system.” So says Roberto De Vita, Sigfrido Ranucci’s lawyer. “Any further or alternative justification would also be subject to the already evident influencing factors from senior government and institutional figures, placing RAI’s actions regarding the presenter and the programme within the realm of political decision-making. For this reason, wisdom and balance – taking into account previous cases as well – should lead us to wait until the conclusion of the judicial investigations, so that we may show solidarity without hesitation towards the victim of a serious attack and, for this reason too, confirm him as the presenter of Italy’s most important investigative programme; or (something that will not happen and is already quite evident) censure any conscious or unconscious carelessness (the existence of which is found only in the statements and writings of politicians and journalists who have always been driven by a spirit of revenge against *Report*)”, he concludes.
