Frankfurt (Germany), 19 Aug. (LaPresse) – Switzerland is in “close contact” with Rome regarding the cases of so-called ‘Dublin cases’, as part of the resumption of transfers to Italy, which “will begin in the coming weeks” and will initially concern “individual cases” relating to entries that took place after 12 June 2026, the date on which the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum (GEAS). Nicolas Cerclé, spokesperson for the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), told LaPresse: “The SEM is in close contact with its Italian counterparts, who are currently finalising the conditions for the resumption of Dublin transfers,” said Cerclé, explaining that “the first transfers are scheduled for the coming weeks”. “The resumption of transfers will initially take place gradually, so as not to overload the system,” said the spokesperson, adding that “the planned transfers currently concern individual cases, and this applies at present to all European countries intending to transfer Dublin cases to Italy”. As regards the first transfers, “the new procedures will initially be tested on cases where entry into Switzerland took place after the Migration and Asylum Pact came into force (12 June 2026)”, emphasised Cerclé, explaining that the SEM “cannot, for operational reasons, provide information on the specific arrangements”.
