Turin, 21 August (LaPresse) – A 31-year-old man, who is alleged to have stabbed a 50-year-old woman twice in the early hours of the night, was tracked down and arrested overnight by the Carabinieri in Moncalieri, not far from Turin’s ‘Molinette’ Hospital. The pair had arranged to meet at a residential complex in Moncalieri after getting to know each other on social media. For reasons still under investigation, the man is alleged to have then attacked the woman with a knife, wounding her in the neck and hand. Screams coming from the room in the accommodation complex alerted a neighbouring guest, who – having stepped out into the corridor and seen traces of blood on the woman – contacted 112. The police then took the woman’s statement and reviewed the CCTV footage inside the holiday apartment complex, enabling them to piece together the sequence of events, the direction in which the man fled and his physical description. After around two hours, at approximately 3 am, the 31-year-old was tracked down whilst still wearing the same clothes he had worn during the attack. Arrested virtually in the act for attempted murder, he is now being held in the Carabinieri station’s detention cells pending a summary trial. The woman has been discharged from hospital with a prognosis of seven days’ recovery.
