Rome, Aug. 22 (LaPresse) – “There can be no true civil freedom without personal freedom, that is, without respect for and promotion of the dignity of the human person, of which freedom is an essential component. This freedom is ultimately given and guaranteed by God, whose voice resonates in the conscience of every human being.” Pope Leo XIV said this while meeting the Captains Regent at the Public Palace in San Marino. “Freedom is fulfilled through giving, communion, encounter and dialogue. It is like a plant that grows and produces branches and leaves in order to offer everyone oxygen, shade, fragrance, fruit and new seeds. And how could it be otherwise, since it springs from the source that is the one and triune God? This theological reference may perhaps seem excessive, but I believe that today it is necessary, in the face of the idolatry that corrupts at its roots those political and economic projects that present themselves in the name of freedom, but are in reality slaves to idols and power,” the Pontiff added.
