Naples: Elderly woman dies in house fire; her daughter arrested

Milan, 29 Aug. (LaPresse) – The daughter of 75-year-old Gena Totaro, who died in a fire that broke out in the kitchen of her home in Gragnano, in the province of Naples, has been arrested. The woman was arrested this morning, following her questioning by the duty public prosecutor, as serious evidence of her guilt in the deliberate murder of her mother has emerged. The body has been handed over to the judicial authorities and the house has been placed under seizure. Initial investigations carried out by the Carabinieri have revealed that the daughter, who is believed to be suffering from mental health issues – which are yet to be fully ascertained – attempted to set her mother’s home alight after cutting the gas pipe, causing a fire that engulfed her mother and led to her death. The woman is also under investigation for the offence of attempted arson.
