I stand by this, and would like to clarify: it is not your professionalism that is mediocre – which I do not question – but rather the decision to put you in charge of the most important investigative programme in the history of Italian television. A feature produced for *Report* – which, incidentally, was never broadcast, and which I re-edited a couple of times – does not make anyone a presenter.” Sigfrido Ranucci wrote this in a long Facebook post, addressing Daniele Piervincenzi, who was chosen by Rai’s top management to present the programme *Report* alongside Giulia Presutti. “Rai has justified your appointment as presenters by referring to a competition you won,” he states. “It forgot to specify which one: a competition designed to fill staffing gaps in the editorial teams of regional news programmes, which assesses the ability to appear on screen and read a one-minute script. Not the ability to direct a 160-minute prime-time programme of investigative reporting.” Ranucci recalls joining *Report* “after a long journey in 2006, having produced national scoops – such as the long-lost interview with Paolo Borsellino – and an international scoop, namely the one on the use of chemical weapons in Fallujah, Iraq, by the Americans.
