(LaPresse) – Germany still maintains channels of communication with Russia, despite the deterioration in relations and the accusations levelled at Moscow over a series of hybrid attacks against the Federal Republic. This was stated by the spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry at a press conference. “Of course, communication still exists,” explained the spokesperson, emphasising that Germany still has an embassy in Moscow and that “the Russian Federation’s ambassador is also still here”. Furthermore, the “normal diplomatic contacts necessary to keep this work going” remain active. The spokesperson explained that the federal government and Germany as a whole have “naturally an interest in maintaining constructive relations with the Russian Federation”. This, he added, however, presupposes “a minimum level of willingness to cooperate on the part of the other side”. “In light of the attacks that have come to light and those we have attributed to Russia in Leipzig, we unfortunately do not see this level of willingness,” he said. According to the spokesperson, these incidents form part of “a long series of events and a long series of hostile acts directed against the Federal Republic of Germany”.
