Rome, 7 September (LaPresse) – Valter Lavitola “will make unsolicited statements via videoconference from Rebibbia Prison, where he has been detained since 10 August”. This was clarified by his lawyer, Sergio Cola, before entering the judicial complex in Piazzale Clodio, where the hearing before the judges of the Review Court is due to take place this morning. The lawyer went on to explain that the aggravating circumstance of ‘mafia-style conduct’, of which his client and the four perpetrators are accused, does not apply. In recent days, Mr Cola submitted a 72-page defence brief to the investigating judge and the deputy public prosecutor, Edoardo De Santis. “Today, at the review hearing, we will demonstrate that there is no longer any need for precautionary measures and that the time limits have expired. Furthermore, the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office’s case, as it stands, cannot hold water, nor can the territorial jurisdiction,” added Cola.
