Brussels, 2 May (LaPresse) – Ireland's Data Protection Commission (Dpc) has fined TikTok €530 million and ordered corrective measures at the Chinese social following an investigation into illicit transfers of European users' data to China. The Dpc also sanctioned TikTok for not being transparent with users about where their personal data goes and ordered the company to comply within six months. Ireland's national regulator acts as the main data privacy watchdog for TikTok in the EU. According to the decision, notified to TikTok, the Chinese social media company has violated the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in relation to European user data transfers to China and related transparency obligations. There are administrative fines totalling EUR 530 million and an injunction requiring TikTok to adjust its data processing within six months. The decision also includes an injunction suspending TikTok's transfers to China if the data processing is not adjusted within that period.
