Turin, 19 Aug. (LaPresse) – Australian Nick Kyrgios has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for cocaine. In an Instagram post, the 31-year-old tennis player stated that he had made “a huge mistake” and that he took “full responsibility” for it. The test was carried out during the Mallorca tournament on 22 June, and the sample was subsequently found to contain benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. The former world number 13 has been provisionally suspended since 4 August. The ITIA, the International Tennis Integrity Agency, has stated that Kyrgios could appeal against the provisional suspension, “but has not done so as yet”. In the past, the Australian had attacked Jannik Sinner on several occasions over the Clostebol case.
