Rome, Oct. 17 (LaPresse) – “In this square, I find much of the spirit that brought us together to win the constitutional referendum, which everyone thought we had already lost. Instead, the extraordinary mobilization of civic forces and civil society made the difference. This is what we need: to build an alternative together and reach out to those who mobilized and who may have been distant in recent years, who may no longer trust politics and political parties but have a clear understanding of what it means to defend the Constitution and implement it article by article.” This was stated by Democratic Party (PD) secretary Elly Schlein as she arrived in Piazza del Popolo for the CGIL demonstration. “With this Budget Bill, when students cannot afford rent and farmers and truck drivers are struggling to make ends meet, it is incredible that Meloni’s priority is to increase military spending by 14 billion. If they win, they will raise military spending to 5%; if we win, we will increase healthcare spending to 7%,” she added. “These must be the constitutional priorities on which to build an alternative. We want to build it not alone, but together with everyone who wants to contribute, and there are truly many of them here in the square today.”
