Rome, Oct. 21 (LaPresse) – “Our mayors are asking to be able to work together in a spirit of institutional cooperation. I therefore call on the government to convene them. We have a minister who refuses to take responsibility and instead shifts it onto mayors, passing the buck.” This was stated by Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein while speaking at the Coldiretti forum in Rome today. “In a parliamentary democracy, if a minister has information, it would be advisable for him to come and share it with us in Parliament,” Schlein added, referring to Defence Minister Guido Crosetto’s remarks on ‘hybrid warfare’, which is also being waged through social media and is gaining ground in Italy as well as across Europe. “The violence is unacceptable, and we have condemned it. Repression is not enough unless we engage in an in-depth discussion of the underlying causes. Why has the government, over these years,” Schlein asked in conclusion, “focused solely on repression and never on prevention?” she concluded.
