Rome, Oct. 22 (LaPresse) – “After two years of commitment and campaigning, the European Parliament plenary vote on ETS benchmarks is a crucial and indispensable step towards launching a serious review of these rules for the benefit of industry and, above all, of those industrial districts, starting with ceramics, that were at risk of extinction. Energy is a fundamental battleground for reviving the competitiveness of European industry, and this is why Confindustria continues to pursue it without hesitation, every day and at every level.” This was stated by Confindustria President Emanuele Orsini. “We are engaged in a complicated and decisive process in which everyone must do their part: we acknowledge the work carried out in Europe by the Prime Minister, the right battle for flexibility, and the right battle for a review of the ETS,” he continued. “On this point, today we are pleased to note the unity of Italy’s political forces, across party lines, and in particular the strong commitment of the Democratic Party, led in Strasbourg by Annalisa Corrado. Now we need the courage to continue reindustrialising Europe, setting aside all ideological approaches. We are well aware that this decision does not mark the end of the process, but it is an indispensable step towards advancing the European negotiations between Parliament, Commission and Council, the so-called trilogue, in order to reach an agreed final text that concretely addresses the needs of Italian and European businesses. On energy, all countries should stand together rather than divide, especially the major industrial nations such as Italy, France and Germany, to jointly support the demands of our manufacturing sector, and above all those of industrial districts that have long been exposed to the risk of deindustrialisation.”
