Washington (US), 28 Oct. (LaPresse) – Donald Trump is calling for the disqualification of the Democratic Senate candidate in Alaska, Mary Peltola, whom he accuses of “electoral fraud”. The President’s claims are based on a New York Times investigation, which revealed that Peltola’s campaign recruited a man with exactly the same name as her Republican opponent, Dan Sullivan, with the aim of confusing voters and siphoning off votes. In a post on Truth, Trump claimed that Peltola’s actions were illegal and that she should be disqualified from the race. “ “It has just come to light that the Democrats in Alaska have illegally sought out and recruited a man named Dan Sullivan to stand against our esteemed Republican senator, Dan Sullivan, in order to rig, confuse and obscure the election, thereby siphoning off votes from the real senator, Dan Sullivan,” the President wrote. Until now, Peltola’s campaign team had denied any link to the candidacy of the second Dan Sullivan, who, purely by coincidence, shares the same name as the incumbent Republican senator, whose seat Peltola is seeking to win. The Department of Justice has taken action to attempt to block the certification of the Senate race in Alaska, should the second candidate named Sullivan secure enough votes to alter the outcome of the election. “In Alaska, I do not believe that Mary Peltola, having carried out such a terrible scheme, should be allowed to stand as a candidate; this is, in fact, electoral fraud. The Democrats cheated! They found a man called Dan Sullivan, put him on the ballot paper and then lied in court, claiming they knew nothing about it. That is perjury. She shouldn’t be allowed to stand, and neither should the fake Dan Sullivan!”, Trump reiterated in a second post.
