Milan, 29 Oct. (LaPresse) – “As a former judge, I respect the independence and autonomy of the judiciary. Moreover, these measures must always be read in their entirety. I was surprised because the reasoning put forward by the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office – which is of the highest professional standard” – regarding the request for pre-trial detention “was very well-founded and well-argued. So to see that it was rejected in its entirety came as a surprise. I hope this does not fuel further conflict between politics and the judiciary.” This was stated by the Minister for Justice, Carlo Nordio, speaking at the Salone della Giustizia in Rome, regarding the release of Youssef Siher. “I played no part in this matter, nor is it our intention to send inspectors or anything of the sort. I think the Public Prosecutor’s Office will lodge an appeal and we will see how it turns out,” he added.
Protests, Nordio: “Siher? I’m surprised, but I have no intention of sending inspectors”
