Milan, 31 Oct. (LaPresse) – A fourth supertanker has caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz after attempting to navigate an unauthorised route and striking a naval mine. This was reported by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, which stated that the vessel had ignored warnings from Iranian naval forces. Al Jazeera reports this. In a statement, the IRGC said that the tanker, which was carrying over 2 million barrels of crude oil, was attempting to leave the Strait via the unauthorised southern route. The vessel reportedly ignored radio warnings issued by the Pasdaran Navy before striking a mine, causing a “massive explosion”. “The supertanker is currently ablaze,” added the Revolutionary Guards’ Navy.
