Milan, Nov. 1 (LaPresse) – MotoGP regrets Yamaha’s decision not to take part in the Qatar Grand Prix. While we acknowledge that the team is bound by a broader corporate policy restricting travel to the Middle East, we believe this decision does not take into account the extensive assurances provided to all championship stakeholders. This is stated in a MotoGP statement following Yamaha’s announcement that it will not participate in the Qatar Grand Prix due to the war in the Middle East. Following consultations with the State of Qatar, the Lusail International Circuit, independent security advisers and MotoGP’s ongoing risk assessment process, no information has emerged that would justify changing the current plans for the event. We have communicated this position, together with the latest available updates, to all manufacturers and teams. We welcome confirmation from the rest of the grid that they will participate in the Qatar race, and thank them for their commitment. In addition to the contractual implications arising from Yamaha’s decision under its agreements with MotoGP and IRTA, its non-participation also has sporting implications. Any consequences in this regard will be handled by the FIM in accordance with the Championship regulations, MotoGP concluded, referring to possible penalties against Yamaha.
