Milan, 1 Nov. (LaPresse) – Maximum result with minimum effort. A Como side operating in ‘energy-saving’ mode beat Venezia 1–0 in the early kick-off of Matchday 10 of the Serie A season. The decisive goal came from a first-half penalty by Da Cunha. For Fabregas’s side, this fourth consecutive league win sees them reclaim fourth place at the expense of Milan, on 23 points and two points behind the leaders. Next weekend sees a head-to-head clash at San Siro against Inter. It’s a bitter pill to swallow for Venezia, who suffered their third consecutive defeat and their ninth of the season. The Lagunari remain bottom of the table with just three points. No changes to the line-up with a view to the Champions League for Fabregas, who fielded Da Cunha, Paz and Baturina in attack behind Douvikas against Como. For Venezia, Nicola relied on Lauberbach and Adams up front. The first half was played at a brisk pace at the Sinigaglia, with Como dictating the play but failing to break through the Lagunari’s defensive wall. The Larians finally broke the deadlock in the closing stages of the half thanks to a penalty converted by Cunha in the 43rd minute. Earlier, a penalty had been awarded to Venezia for a suspected handball by Milla in the box, only for it to be overturned by VAR. It was a dubious decision, to say the least, as the on-field decision by Ferrieri Caputi appeared correct. In the second half, Como consolidated their lead and even came close to doubling it through Baturina and Couto. Venezia tried to respond, but a lack of quality in their build-up play hampered Nicola’s side. In fact, the visitors were only really dangerous in stoppage time with a thunderbolt from outside the box by Basic, which Butez saved in two attempts. It was simply not enough.
