Turin, 1 Nov. (LaPresse) – Kimi Antonelli is the new Formula 1 world champion. Thanks to his third-place finish in the Mexican Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver has mathematically secured the title, 73 years after the last Italian champion, Alberto Ascari. The race – which was interrupted by a red flag following an accident involving Bottas’s Cadillac – was won by Max Verstappen ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari. Charles Leclerc finished fourth, ahead of Lando Norris’s McLaren in fifth and George Russell’s other Mercedes in sixth. Tensions ran high at Ferrari following the clash at the start between Hamilton, who started from pole position, and Leclerc himself, who took the lead on the first lap but was handed a 5-second on-track penalty by the stewards, ultimately paving the way for Verstappen’s victory.
