Frankfurt (Germany), 2 Nov. (LaPresse) – The German government is taking the concerns and demands of the young people who took to the streets on Saturday in over 30 cities across the country “very seriously”, but condemns in the strongest possible terms the violence that occurred that evening. This was stated by government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius during a press conference in Berlin. “The political demands of young people are being taken on board by the federal government and are, of course, being discussed and addressed in depth,” said Kornelius. Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted that “a very large number of young people demonstrated peacefully” and that the message from the younger generations aligns with what he himself has been repeating for months: “The federal government wants to open up new opportunities, particularly for the younger generations.” For this reason, the spokesperson added, the government is working across all policy areas to offer young people prospects for the future, particularly in the areas of pensions, the budget, security and healthcare. Regarding the clashes, “the Chancellor shares the assessment of the Minister of the Interior, who spoke of infiltration by elements of the far left and troublemakers with a migrant background in relation to the unrest, and ‘condemns in the strongest possible terms the outbreaks of violence that occurred at the end of the day’”.
