Rome, 2 Nov. (LaPresse) – “The ANP does not agree with this decision. We are well aware of the effects of the demographic decline, but this should represent an opportunity to improve the education service and not merely to reduce its costs. The decline in pupil numbers, in fact, does not necessarily entail a corresponding reduction in educational and organisational needs.” So said Antonello Giannelli, president of the National Association of Public School Leaders and Senior Professionals, on the cuts planned for the education sector in the budget bill. “The 2027 Budget Bill,” explains the ANP, “provides, with effect from the 2027/2028 academic year, for a reduction of 4,925 posts within the teaching staff’s autonomous staffing quota and 2,049 ATA posts. Together with the cuts already provided for in the 2025 Budget Bill – amounting to 5,660 teaching posts and 2,174 ATA posts – this would result in a total reduction, over three years, of 14,808 posts, of which 10,585 are teaching posts and 4,223 are ATA posts.” Giannelli continues: “We therefore call on the Government and Parliament to reconsider, during the parliamentary process for the Budget Bill, the planned staff reductions and to review the criteria for staff allocation based on the actual educational, administrative and organisational needs of educational institutions.”
