Vatican City (Vatican), 27 May (LaPresse) – Regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, ‘we call for respect for international humanitarian law, unrestricted access for aid, the opening of humanitarian corridors and, above all, the promotion of dialogue that can bring about the “two peoples, two states” solution’. This was stated by the President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, during the introduction of the Permanent Council of the CEI. In his speech, Zuppi then reiterated the words of Pope Leo XIV on Gaza: 'The situation in the Gaza Strip is increasingly worrying and painful. I renew my heartfelt appeal to allow dignified humanitarian aid to enter and to put an end to hostilities, whose heartbreaking price is paid by children, the elderly and the sick." ‘Our gaze also turns to Ukraine,’ continued Zuppi, ‘in the hope that the threads of dialogue, already so difficult, will be strengthened and find the necessary guarantees within a framework that allows for a just and secure peace.’
