Fuel, Salvini: ‘A substantial cut in excise duty as early as tonight, worth hundreds of millions’

Milan, 18 March (LaPresse) – “We are working with Minister Giorgetti and we expect to take action as early as this evening with an initial substantial and significant cut in excise duties, which should translate into a discount at the petrol pump within the next few hours.” This was stated by Matteo Salvini, Minister for Infrastructure and leader of the League, at the end of a meeting with oil companies and the associations of petrol station operators – Fegica, Faib and Confesercenti – at the Prefecture in Milan. “The Minister for the Economy is currently working on the scale of this measure; we are talking about several hundred million euros for a one-month trial scheme,” he said. “If everyone plays their part, under the government’s guidance, they will have some breathing space. Let’s hope the war doesn’t drag on for weeks and months,” he added.
