Milan, 11 March. (LaPresse) – ‘The dismissal confirms that we acted to enforce rights already recognised by the Constitution and the Constitutional Court.’ This was stated by Marco Cappato, treasurer of the Luca Coscioni Association, commenting on the dismissal ordered by Milan magistrate Sara Cipolla in the case concerning the assistance provided to two terminally ill patients who were accompanied to Switzerland where they were able to access medically assisted suicide. ‘When Parliament continues to fail to act,’ Cappato continued, ‘it is sick people who assert, even in the courts, the principles of freedom, dignity and equality. This decision clearly states that the state cannot force a person to undergo treatment they refuse just to have their rights recognised.’
End of Life, Cappato: ‘Milan magistrate’s dismissal is a valuable precedent’
