Rome, 15 March (LaPresse) – ‘I appeal to those responsible for this conflict. Cease fire; let the channels of dialogue be reopened. Violence can never bring about the justice, stability and peace that the people are waiting for.’ With these words, Pope Leo XIV, following the Angelus, issued a fresh appeal for an end to hostilities in Iran and throughout the Middle East. “For two weeks now, the peoples of the Middle East have been enduring the atrocious suffering of war,” said the Pope, “thousands of people have been killed and many more forced to flee their homes. I renew my prayerful solidarity with all those who have lost loved ones in the attacks that have struck schools, hospitals and residential areas.”
