Milan, 10 July (LaPresse) – The Milan Court of Appeal has acquitted all 23 far-right activists charged with fascist demonstration for performing the Roman salute and shouting “present” on 29 April 2019 in Milan during the annual commemoration held in memory of Sergio Ramelli, the young member of the Youth Front killed by Avanguardia Operaia in 1975. This was announced by lawyer Enrico Giarda, who represented some of the defendants. The ruling upheld the first-instance verdict of the Court, which had already acquitted the demonstrators. The Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office had lodged an appeal against that ruling. In a similar case – the commemoration for Sergio Ramelli in 2018, the previous year – the Court of Appeal had, in recent months, handed down 13 four-month sentences to as many far-right activists, as requested by the Deputy Attorney General, Olimpia Bossi, drawing on the 2024 ruling by the Joint Divisions of the Court of Cassation regarding the offence of fascist demonstration as provided for under the Scelba Law. The grounds for the acquittal will be filed within 90 days.
