Milan, 16 July (LaPresse) – In mathematics, almost one in three primary school pupils does not reach the basic level: compared with 2025, according to Invalsi data released today, there has been a fall of around three percentage points in the proportion of boys and girls reaching at least the basic level in the two year groups assessed (for Year 2: 67 per cent in 2025; 64 per cent in 2026. In Year 5: 66 per cent in 2025; 63 per cent in 2026). A comparison of primary school results over time shows that they have remained largely stable compared with last year. In Italian, the percentage of boys and girls achieving at least the basic level is virtually constant across the two year groups observed (Year 2: 66% in 2025; 67% in 2026. Year 5: 75% in 2025; 73% in 2026). Similarly, for English – in both Listening and Reading in Year 5 – the percentage of pupils achieving the prescribed CEFR A1 level has remained stable compared with last year (Reading: 91% in 2025; 91% in 2026; Listening: 86% in 2025; 85% in 2026).
