Rome, Jun. 27 (LaPresse) – “It has been 46 years since the Ustica tragedy in the skies. On this day of reflection and remembrance, thoughts of closeness and solidarity go first and foremost to the families of the victims, devastated by an unacceptable event and a profound pain that time cannot heal. In the history of the Republic, the mark of that catastrophe cannot be erased. Eighty-one lives were destroyed. All passengers and crew members of the DC-9 flight from Bologna to Palermo died. Many of the bodies were never recovered. The reconstruction of what happened remained unclear for a long time; however, the path towards truth has been pursued and has led to significant results. Reconstructing what happened over the Tyrrhenian Sea on that tragic June 27, 1980 remains an essential duty.” This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
