Milan, 22 Oct. (LaPresse) – “The right is exploiting the events in Milan to win support, but this is the last straw: they’re the ones in government! They told us that the centre-left was full of do-gooders, but the truth is that the other side is full of incompetents.” So said Italia Viva leader Matteo Renzi in an interview with *La Repubblica*, when asked about the events in Milan. “I understand the ‘sociological’ approach, but ultimately it obscures the failure of a government that is unable to maintain public order and allows police officers to be beaten up in the streets. Before we divide ourselves into those calling for law and order and those urging us to understand the young people, we must demand clarity from the government,” Renzi added. “Giorgia Meloni and Matteo Piantedosi are facing the greatest failure of their time in government,” he continued. “When you’re on your ninth security decree and have lost control of the cities because of the ‘maranza’, it’s clear to everyone that you’ve failed. I’m not afraid to use the word ‘repression’, but I find it mind-boggling that there was no prevention whatsoever. In recent years, the secret services have seen an incredible increase in their budget; they’ve used Paragon to spy on utility accounts registered to journalists, even on priests working with NGOs in the Mediterranean – and yet they’ve lost track of the ‘maranza’? And is there no one who has the courage to say that the same thing – even more serious – happened with the jihadist from Modena?”
