Milan, 8 Nov. (LaPresse) – Within the League, “there is no split: it is simply a matter of some differing views which we are trying to discuss”. Speaking on the sidelines of the Carroccio’s provincial congress in Varese, held in Albizzate, Lombardy’s governor Attilio Fontana rejected the notion of a divided party and defended the party’s leader in the Senate, Massimiliano Romeo, against whom signatures have been collected calling for a vote of no confidence. “It seemed as though there shouldn’t be any. Now we’ll see how far they take it. I remain confident, not least because Romeo doesn’t seem to me to have done anything serious to be deemed unworthy of holding that role. He has simply expressed the values that are part of the League,” explained Fontana. For the regional president, the Albizzate congress is proof of the party’s resilience: “The League has never been divided. In fact, today is an opportunity to demonstrate the party’s strength: when there is a call to action, when there is a summons, the activists turn up. My call is for whoever wins to involve whoever loses, whichever side it may be. We must not view this moment as a clash, but as an opportunity for discussion so that we can then move forward together.” And when asked whether the ‘rank and file’ of party members referred to by the Minister for the Economy still exists, he replied: “It does; despite everything our opponents say, our rank and file are there and remain as strong as ever.”
Lega, A. Fontana: “Nothing serious from Romeo; whoever wins should involve the loser”
