Milan, 2 February (LaPresse) – There have been few changes for Italy in the women’s world rankings published this morning by the WTA after the conclusion of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year held in Melbourne. This week, there are still two Italian players in the top 100. Jasmine Paolini remains the Italian leader: the 29-year-old from Bagni di Lucca, who was stopped in the third round by “baby” Jovic, remains stable in eighth place. Behind her, Elisabetta Cocciaretto has gained five places and is now back up to No. 51, while Lucia Bronzetti, who dropped out of the top 100 at the end of October, has lost three places and is now No. 110. Aryna Sabalenka remains in the lead for the 68th consecutive week (her 76th overall: she was already there from 11 September to 5 November 2023): the 27-year-old from Minsk, defeated in the final for the second year in a row, still sees her lead over Iga Swiatek increase to 3,012 points: the 24-year-old from Warsaw, former queen of world tennis, lost her leadership in October 2024 after a total of 125 weeks (the last 50 consecutive). Returning to the third step of the podium is the queen of Melbourne, Kazakhstan’s Elena Ribakina – just 369 points behind the Polish player – who gains two positions and equals her “best”.
