Milan, 12 June (LaPresse) – After narrowly missing out on promotion with Catanzaro, Alberto Aquilani has secured a move to Serie A: “Sassuolo Calcio announces that ‘Mr Alberto Aquilani is the new manager of the first team’.” Born in Rome in 1984, following a long playing career with clubs including Roma, Liverpool, Juventus and Milan, Aquilani joined the Neroverdi in January 2017: he made 16 appearances and played 1,237 minutes for Sassuolo, where he left a lasting impression on everyone involved, both on and off the pitch. Aquilani began his coaching career in July 2019 with Fiorentina’s Under-18s, but soon became an assistant coach to Giuseppe Iachini in the first team until the end of the season. Since July 2020, he has been in charge of the Viola’s Primavera side, winning the 19/20 Coppa Italia Primavera and repeating the feat in the 20/21 and 21/22 seasons, also securing the respective Super Cups. At the end of the 22/23 season, he received the award for best coach in the Primavera league after finishing third in the regular season and second in the final phase.
