Turin, 22 June (LaPresse) – Alex Schwazer’s name has once again been linked to a doping case. NADA, the German National Anti-Doping Agency, has in fact initiated disciplinary proceedings against the Italian race walker “for a possible breach of anti-doping regulations”, according to a statement from the agency, which “has imposed a provisional suspension on the athlete” and has “lodged a complaint with the relevant public prosecutor’s office in accordance with the Anti-Doping Act”. Schwazer, who on 26 April took part in the German national race walking marathon championships, winning unchallenged with a time of 3h01’55” – an Italian record for the distance – tested positive for EPO on that occasion, a substance detected “in both the athlete’s urine and blood”, according to NADA.
