Milan, 26 June (LaPresse) – A sensational Sara Curtis is stealing the show at the 62nd edition of the IP Settecolli Trophy – International Swimming Championships, taking place until Sunday 28 June at the Stadio del Nuoto in the heart of the Foro Italico. The 20-year-old from Savigliano has set a new European record in the 50-metre backstroke with a time of 27.07 seconds. The Italian swimmer’s time is also the fifth-fastest ever recorded over this distance. Earlier in the morning, Curtis had already set a new Italian record of 27.23 seconds, beating the previous mark of 27.33 seconds – set at the Italian Championships in Riccione last April – by ten hundredths of a second. “I’m really very happy; I don’t know what to say. And to do it in this pool. There’s been a lot of hard work behind this; the 50-metre backstroke is the event that’s given me the most satisfaction this year,” Curtis told Sky Sport. “Knowing I’ve clocked this time over an Olympic distance is a significant benchmark, and I’ll be aiming to improve on it further at the European Championships in Paris,” she added.
