Milan, 28 June (LaPresse) – Lionel Messi is cementing his place in football history. ‘La Pulga’ has become the first player to score in seven consecutive World Cup matches, further extending his goal-scoring record with his 19th goal in Argentina’s final group stage match against Jordan. Messi scored from a free-kick after being brought down just outside the penalty area in the 80th minute. The 39-year-old Argentine star was one of only three players to have scored in six consecutive World Cup matches, alongside French striker Just Fontaine and Brazilian legend Jairzinho. “What you see, I see too,” said manager Lionel Scaloni, speaking about Messi. “It’s a bit of an awkward situation every time I’m asked about it, because I don’t know what to say anymore,” he added.
