Milan, 14 July (LaPresse) – “It’s the way of life. The time has come, because that’s how I feel.” With these words in a social media post, Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut confirmed to the ATP that his career is over. “There comes a time when your body and mind say ‘enough’,” explains the 38-year-old from Castellón. During his career, he won 12 ATP titles, the most prestigious of which was at the ATP 500 in Dubai in 2018. His trophy haul began in ’s-Hertogenbosch in 2014 and concluded ten years later with his final title in Antwerp in 2024. He reached a further 11 finals, including the one in Shanghai in 2016, his only career appearance in a Masters 1000 event. His best result in the Grand Slams – as Supertennis recalls – remains the semi-final at Wimbledon in 2019, a result that forced him to postpone his stag do. It was at Wimbledon this year that he played his final match, losing in the first round to the Brazilian João Fonseca.
