Rome, 20 Aug. (LaPresse) – Lorenzo Musetti has reached the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Masters 1000. In the round of 16, he put in a solid performance against Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria, defeating him 7-5, 6-2. Thanks to this victory, the Italian has reached the quarter-finals of a Masters 1000 tournament for the first time since the 2025 BNL Italian Open. It is his best result in a tournament of this category on hard courts since Paris-Bercy 2022. Musetti wrapped up the match in one hour and sixteen minutes with a second-serve ace, his sixth of the match. He won 79 per cent of points on his first serve and 73 per cent on his second. The Portuguese player was simply outclassed; whilst he held his own in the first set, he never gave the impression that he could cope with the Italian’s ball speed. The Carrara-born player joins Cobolli in the quarter-finals. This is the first time two Italian players have reached the last eight in Ohio in the Open era. Previously, only Renzo Furlan in 1995, Fabio Fognini in 2014 and Jannik Sinner – champion in 2024 and runner-up in 2025 – had progressed this far.
