Rome, 30 Oct. (LaPresse) – “I have never agreed with this decision. The current stadium is still perfect for playing in. And it has an incredible history: it’s a landmark of the city of Milan. They’re tearing it down to build one that would have no reason to exist. Too bad for those who decided that.” These were the words of Gianni Rivera, a star of the 1970s Milan side, in an interview with ‘la Repubblica’, following the unveiling of the new stadium to be built in Milan next to the ‘Meazza’. “Instead of naming it after those who shaped the club’s history, they’re naming it after whoever pays the most. Just imagine how delighted the fans must be. I would have liked it to be named after me and my friend Sandro Mazzola,” he added.
