Washington, March 4 (LaPresse) – As of today, Tuesday, March 5, U.S. tariffs on Canadian and Mexican products go into effect. President Donald Trump had declared that he would proceed with implementing a 25% tariff on goods imported from Canada and Mexico into the United States, adding that the time to reach an agreement had expired. It is also expected that a further 10% tariff will come into effect on Chinese imports, forcing all three of the United States' main trading partners to face significantly higher trade barriers than just a few weeks ago. "There’s no more time for Mexico or Canada," Trump said at the White House on Monday. "The tariffs, you know, are all set. They will go into effect tomorrow." Some experts told ABC News that tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China could raise prices on a wide range of goods. Tariffs of this magnitude would likely increase prices for U.S. buyers, as importers typically pass a portion of those higher costs onto consumers, the experts said. The policy could raise prices for products ranging from tomatoes to tequila to auto parts.
