Rome, 18 May (LaPresse) – A jury in Oakland, California, has decided to dismiss the lawsuit brought by Elon Musk against Sam Altman and OpenAI, on the grounds that the claims were time-barred. The nine-member jury ruled that Musk had waited too long before filing his complaint. The trial, which began on 27 April in Oakland, California, shed light on the bitter rift between the two Silicon Valley giants and on the early days of OpenAI, now a company valued at $852 billion and on the verge of one of the largest initial public offerings in history. Altman and OpenAI argued that there had never been a promise to keep the company as a non-profit organisation forever. Indeed, they argued that Musk was aware of this and had filed the lawsuit because he could not exercise unilateral control over the rapidly growing artificial intelligence development company. Musk was seeking damages to support the philanthropic activities of OpenAI’s charitable arm, as well as for Altman’s removal from the board of directors.
