Milan, 19 May (LaPresse) – The alliance between Russia and China is not directed ‘against anyone’, but ‘towards the cause of peace and universal prosperity’. So said Russian President Vladimir Putin in a video message ahead of his visit to Beijing, as reported by TASS. Relations between Russia and China are characterised by ‘an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, a willingness to cooperate on the basis of mutual benefit and equality, to engage in respectful dialogue and to support one another on issues affecting the fundamental interests of both countries, including the protection of sovereignty and national unity’. Putin’s official visit to Beijing will take place today and tomorrow, 20 May. As Yuri Ushakov, adviser to the Russian president, told journalists, the two leaders will discuss the most important and sensitive issues in bilateral relations, including an in-depth discussion on cooperation in the supply of hydrocarbons. Putin stated that Russia and China are actively developing ties in virtually all sectors and that a visa-free regime between the two countries will open up new opportunities for communication between their citizens.
