Rome, 20 May (LaPresse) – The Pentagon announced in a statement that it had “reduced the total number of Combat Brigades assigned to Europe from four to three”. This, it is explained, ‘brings the number of Brigades in Europe back to 2021 levels’. The statement continues that this decision ‘is the result of a complex and comprehensive process, centred on the presence of US forces in Europe. This will result in a temporary delay in the deployment of US forces to Poland, a key US ally’. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth “spoke today with Polish Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, and the Department will remain in close contact with Polish counterparts throughout this review, including to ensure that the United States maintains a strong military presence in Poland. Poland has demonstrated both the capability and the determination to defend itself. Other NATO allies should follow its example,” the Pentagon added.
