Rome, June 4 (LaPresse) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that he was in Ali Khamenei’s office when the former Supreme Leader was killed in the Israeli and U.S. attacks against Iran on February 28. “After returning from the Geneva negotiations on Friday, I went to Mr. Khamenei’s office at nine o’clock on Saturday morning to present my report. It concerned the negotiations and the atmosphere that had developed the previous day, which had made the possibility of war much more concrete,” Araghchi said in an interview with Al Mayadeen, a media outlet affiliated with Hezbollah. “At the moment of Mr. Ali Khamenei’s martyrdom, I was in his office, which came under attack. The building we were in was targeted, but the wing where we were located remained unharmed. When I emerged from the rubble, my only thought was whether he had been targeted or not,” he added, stressing that “the spirit of the martyred leader” prevented Khamenei from “taking refuge in bunkers, despite the high probability of war.”
